In the midst of the pandemic, I began to think about how my life, specifically how college life had been impeded by it. Talking to some of my peers I realized that what everyone seemed to be the most in desperate need of was cash and community. I wanted to tackle both of those needs with one place: Common Cents. A place where students can interact with the surrounding community and hopefully save and maybe even make a little extra money.

Jobs would be offered to work around busy college schedules, open mic nights could stage those looking to launch careers in music, public speaking, acting, or any other performing art. Art on display would be college and community artist submissions and all for sale. And the store would be a space for furniture and clothes to have the chance at a second life, a sustainable solution to the one-use problem that plagues landfills. Allowing students cheap dorm decor, discounted text books on bookshelves, and new wardrobes for far less than they would get at the department stores; as well as offer a place to donate their own to contribute. And most of all, Common Cents would serve as a hub, a space for people to network and find their tribe.
